Rating
Score anything on a scale you choose — stars, hearts, faces, weather or plain numbers. Click to rate, click again to clear.
A Rating is a number on a scale you choose. It shows as stars, hearts, faces or number buttons, so you can score a film, a meal or your mood with one click. Underneath it is a plain number, so charts, summaries and formulas treat it exactly like a Number.
Adding a Rating
- Choose + Add a property.
- Pick Rating under Basic.
A new Rating starts as five stars, from 1 to 5. To change it, open the property's settings: in the Collection builder, use the row's ⠿ menu → Adjust settings.
Start from a preset
The top of the settings shows five presets. Pick one and the whole scale is filled in for you:

Change anything after that and the preset turns into Custom. Your change is saved straight away.
The scale: From, To and Step
- From and To set the lowest and highest rating. A pain scale can go from 0 to 10.
- Step sets how fine the rating is: 1 for whole numbers, 0.5 for half stars, 0.1 for decimals like 7.3. Choose Other to type your own step.
If the numbers do not fit together (for example, To is lower than From), a red message tells you what to fix. Nothing is saved until the scale is valid.
Rate with
Tick one or more ways to enter a rating:
- Icons — click a star, heart or face.
- Slider — drag to the value. Good for fine steps like 0.1.
- Number box — type the number, or use − and +.
At least one stays ticked. With half or decimal steps, you can also tick Icon clicks jump to whole numbers, so a click on the third star always means 3 while the slider or number box handles the decimals.
Icons
Under Style, choose how the icons look:
- Same icon — one icon repeated and filled in, like stars. Pick the icon and its color. This style needs a scale that starts at 0 or higher.
- Icon per step — a different icon for each step, like faces. The icon closest to your rating lights up.
- Numbers — a row of number buttons.
For Icon per step and Numbers, each step has its own row. You can change its icon, give it a color, and write a short label such as "Awful" or "Great". Labels are empty until you write one.
- Icon count sets how many icons show. Leave it empty and Kaizendex picks a sensible number.
- Labels show chooses where your labels appear: On hover (a small tip) or Under icons.
- Untick Higher is better for scales where a low number is good, like pain. The faces flip so the happy face sits at the low end.
The Preview at the bottom is the real Rating, so you can try clicks and the slider before you close the settings.
Rating an entry
A Rating looks and works the same on the entry page, on cards, in the table and in the browser on your phone:
- Hover over the icons to preview a value, and click to set it. It saves at once.
- Click the same value again to clear the rating. A toast appears with Undo in case you did not mean it.
- Click the number beside the icons (or press Enter) to open a larger editor with every way you ticked, plus Clear.
- With the keyboard: the arrow keys move one step, Home and End jump to the lowest and highest, and Backspace or Delete clears.
An empty rating means "not rated yet". It is never counted as 0, so your averages stay honest.
Changing to and from Number
You can turn a Number into a Rating (or back) with Change type. Every value is kept. A number that sits outside the new scale — say a 7 on a 1–5 scale — stays as it is and gets a small warning mark until you edit it or widen the scale. See Changing a Property's kind.
