The app background

One picture behind the whole app — and how a chat or a dashboard can bring its own and fade the window to it.

Kaizendex shows one background picture at a time, behind everything: the sidebar, the chat, your cards and charts all float on top of it as rounded, see-through panels, with a strip of the picture showing down each side.

Which picture that is depends on where you are.

Whichever thing you open decides the picture

Open a chat, an AI agent's chat, or a dashboard that has a picture of its own, and the whole window gently fades to it — not just that panel. Leave, and it fades back to your usual background. The fade takes about half a second, and it's instant if your device asks for reduced motion.

The order is simple, most specific first:

  1. What you have open, if it brought a picture — a chat, an agent chat, or a dashboard.
  2. Your own pick in Settings → Appearance → Background.
  3. Your theme's background, if it has one (Aurora Glass, Nocturne Glass, Deck White, Deck Black).
  4. Nothing — a flat colour.

So your Appearance pick is the app's default, not a rule that overrules everything else. And switching theme only changes the last-resort option — it never repaints a chat or a dashboard you gave a picture to.

Photos, GIFs and looping videos (mp4/webm) all work for the app background. Everything syncs across your devices the same way your entries do — including your shelf of backgrounds, which you can name and delete from the same picker (see Appearance and themes).

Ready-made backgrounds

You don't have to supply the picture. Kaizendex has its own Backgrounds in the Library — a new account starts with six on its shelf, and Get more backgrounds in Appearance opens the rest.

Each one has a page where you can Try it on — the whole app wears it while you look around, and nothing is saved until you press Get this background. Getting one is free and costs you no storage; deleting it later only takes the tile off your shelf.

Some of them move: a slow, silent loop. The still picture shows straight away and the motion fades in behind it once it's ready, so you never wait for a background. Ask your device for reduced motion and you simply get the still picture.

Why it still reads well

A soft wash sits over the picture at all times, so text never fights it, and it deepens automatically for a photo you uploaded — a holiday snap needs more taming than a gentle gradient. Text always sits on a panel or a small floating capsule, never straight on the picture, and menus and search dim and blur the picture behind them.

If you'd rather have the plain look

Two ways:

  • Set the background to None in Appearance and pick a theme without one. The panels lose their deep shadows and go back to a plain hairline outline, since there's nothing behind them to lift off.
  • Prefer solid to frosted? Try the Deck White or Deck Black themes — same floating frame, opaque panels.
