Build a daily dashboard

6 steps · 12 min

A dashboard tab that shows today at a glance, with goal rings, headings and the lists you check every day.

You will build one dashboard tab for your day: your goals, streaks and to-dos on a single board that updates as you log.

Add a dashboard tab

Go to Dashboard. Press the + after the last tab and type a name, such as Today. Pick an emoji from the icon button while you rename it.

Click a tab to switch to it. Click the selected tab again to open its menu. See Building charts and dashboards.

Add your first chart

  1. Open the tab's menu and choose Add widget, then Chart.
  2. Press + Add data source and pick a collection. Choose one of its properties, or Count entries.
  3. Set Range to Today and add a Goal, for example 2,000 kcal per day.
  4. Pick a chart type. Ring fills as you log and shows what is left.

The live preview uses your real data. For several numbers in one card, pick Stats.

Add headings, text and lists

Open Add widget again. You can add:

  • Heading and Divider to split the board into sections.
  • Text for your own words. Anything in curly braces is worked out live, like {formatDate(today(), "weekday")}.
  • List / View to embed a saved view, such as today's to-dos.
  • Entry card to pin one entry, or the newest entry in a collection.

See Building charts and dashboards.

Arrange the board

Turn on Edit layout, the first row of the tab's menu. Then:

  • Drag a widget by its ⋮⋮ handle. Its neighbours move out of the way.
  • Pull the bottom-right corner to resize it.
  • Undo any move from the toast.

Press Done at the end of the tabs when you finish. See Designing boards.

Fine-tune each widget

In edit mode, point at a widget and open its ⋯ menu, then Edit widget. It has three tabs:

  • Settings — what the widget shows, its Size, and On phones (half, full or hidden).
  • Style — background, border, corners, colour and more.
  • JSON — every setting written out.

A live preview sits on the right. See Editing widgets.

Use it every day

Open the tab each morning. Under each chart's title, the ‹ today › arrows step back one period at a time. Tap the range to jump to any date; Jump to now brings you back.

For streak calendars you can tick, see Track your daily habits. For how the numbers are summed, see Reading your Dashboard.
