Automate the boring parts
A few small rules that update your entries for you, and a daily entry that appears on its own.
You will set up small rules that do the clicks you repeat every day.
Pick one chore
Find a click you always make after another one. Say it in three parts:
- when: what sets it off, like Done becomes ticked.
- if (optional): an extra check, like "only if the Stage is not done yet".
- then: what happens, like set Stage to done.
A rule can set, clear, toggle, count up, stamp the current time, or add and remove a tag. It never deletes an entry and never reaches outside your data. See Automations.
Ask your AI to write it
In a chat, say it in plain words: "When I tick Done on a task, set the Stage to done."
Your AI describes the rule back and asks before it saves it.
Check it on the Automations page
Open Automations from the sidebar's rail. Each rule is one row: an On checkbox, its name, what starts it, its Collection, and a plain summary of what it does.
You can also open a Collection, click the ⋯ menu in the top bar, and choose Automations to see only that Collection's rules.
Watch it fire
Tick Done on a task. The Stage changes by itself, and a toast names the rule with an Undo button.
Dragging a card to another column on a Board counts as a change too, so rules fire on drags.
Rules run on your own edits, on any of your devices. A change your AI makes in a chat does not set them off.
Add a rule that runs on a clock
A schedule rule fires at a time, not after a click: every day, on chosen weekdays, or every so many minutes. It runs on our servers, so the app does not need to be open.
The most useful one creates an entry through a preset. Ask: "Every day, create a Read today entry in Habits from its preset."
- With no time set, it runs just after midnight in your timezone.
- If you already logged that thing yourself, it skips the day.
See Tracking habits for the full pattern.
Copy and tweak by hand
On the Automations page, New automation asks which Collection, then opens the rule's JSON with a starter rule. Edit on any rule opens the same editor.
- Ready-made rules are in Automation recipes.
- Duplicate makes a copy that starts off, so it changes nothing until you tick On.
- Two rules that would set each other off are refused before they save.
